TTT: My Overdue/Upcoming ARC's

It's time for another Top Ten Tuesday: Brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. If you're participating this week let me know in the comments, I would love to hear what you picked for this weeks TTT, especially since it is a freebie!

                           My Overdue/Upcoming ARCs

This week's TTT is a freebie, woo! So I decided to post the ARCs I have received and have yet to read/review. This is sort of an effort to keep myself accountable, and encourage myself to bump these beauties up my TBR. I may have somewhat over-committed myself with ARCs, as I haven't been reading as much as I would like recently. I will get to them all eventually though, and I'll post my reviews as I read them. [For the non-bloggers out there, ARC = Advanced Review Copy - a free book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review]
So here they are (covers link to Goodreads):

Shadow in the Empire of Light by Jane Routley:
Release day: 4th August 2020

I am currently reading this one and it's really different. The MC is a 'mundane' in a family of noble mages. The matriarchal society is really interesting and different, and so far (I'm only 6 chapters in) it deals with sexism, race, homophobia, and just a whole bunch of family drama. Also a telepathic cat! 😍 I'll hopefully have my review posted prior to release day. Please come and kick me if I don't!

The Hollow Gods by A. J. Vrana
Release day: 28th July (oops! that's today)

I received a copy of this because I'm participating in the Book Blitz for it, which I will (probably) be posting on Thursday. I'm super excited for this one as it's a mix of fantasy and horror, which I don't often read. This one is next on my reading list, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long for my review.

Night Scourge by Pippa DaCosta
Release day: 24th July (This one caught me by surprise, so I'll get to it when I can.)

I received this ARC from the author (thanks Pippa!), and it is the second book in the Daybreaker series. I'm super keen to continue this series, because I was a little confused by the world-building but I loved the characters! (Also how pretty is that cover?!)
Check out my review for book 1, Twilight Seeker here.

Feathertide by Beth Cartwright
Release day: 30th July (not gonna make that one sorry)

I requested a copy of this one because I liked the description, and it has mermaids so what's not to like, am I right? I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I haven't got to this one yet, but a whole bunch of stuff came at once so it'll have to wait a little while longer.

Nightborn by Jessica Thorne
Release day: 26th May.

I'm gonna go ahead and blame Covid for me not reading this one yet. Yep, it is definitely the pandemic's fault. This is more of a dark fantasy, and I really liked book 1 Mageborn (read my review here), especially the slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance. If you like fairytale retellings you should definitely check this series out!

Lucky last is A Drop of Magic by L. R. Braden
Release day: 2019. No I'm not that bad, I didn't actually get a copy of this until earlier this year. Still, I am pretty well overdue for reading this one, and I promise to try and at least start reading it this year. 😄 Sorry! I really do want to read it cause it sounds really cool. An urban fantasy with magic, fae and shapeshifters - right up my alley!

So how do you manage your ARCs, or just your reading in general? You're probably smarter than me and you don't end up requesting a whole bunch of books all at once that you don't have time to read. 😂 I know I shouldn't but I just can't help myself! I really will try to read these babies and get my reviews up at least on some sort of a regular schedule over the next couple of months, but I have issues ok! (If these end up being late, I'll just blame the virus again.)

Thanks for visiting my blog! If you want to keep up to date with me (and my reviews for these poor little neglected ARCs) you can sign up for email notifications, follow me at  @iwishiownedabookstore or feel free to add me on Goodreads. 💗 If you're posting for this week's TTT drop me a link in the comments and I'll come and check out your post!

  1. These look like some wonderful titles. And don't worry...right now we are all running behind on things. And it's okay!

I have a big author party going in Paris, after the pandemic, and I'd love to have you stop by and join in. All our favorites are there...or maybe I left someone out? Join us here!

  4. It's tough NOT to grab up every ARC you can get your hands on, isn't it? I mean, they're FREE books that you get to read before anyone else. What's not to love? I hope you get caught up soon. I'm always behind on reading/reviewing, so I don't have any advice for you on organization.

    Happy TTT!

  9. I hope you enjoy them all! I rarely request ARCs because I know I’d want more than I could read.

  10. I try so hard to keep up with ARCs, but always end up falling behind. I use a spreadsheet (I admit it, I"m an Excel nerd!) to track the release dates and whether I've read the books, and try to read them more or less by the publication date. It helps, but I seem to hit a point where I just can't stand reading according to a schedule and need to just put them all aside and read other things.

    1. I use Excel too! But I'm always changing my mind about what to read next. Too much choice.

  11. Whaaat? Overburdened with ARCs? I wouldn't know what that's like. *laughs awkwardly and tries to shove closed the door hiding my TBR monster*

Looks like you've got some fantastic ARCs, though! I'm really curious to see what you think of The Hollow Gods. I've seen it around, and it sounds really good (and that cover grabs my attention every time!). Feathertide looks really good, and it's hard to say no to mermaids. ;)

    1. Haha, you're like "6 ARCs what a newb!" 😂
It's so hard to pick what to read next, but unfortunately 'all at once' isn't really a viable option.
