Book Blitz: The Hollow Gods by A. J. Vrana

The Hollow Gods by A. J. Vrana
(The Chaos Cycle Series #1)
Publication date: July 28th 2020
Published by: Parliament House Press
Genres: Dark Fantasy, Magical Realism, New Adult

Isolated in the forests of Western Canada, Black Hollow is a town with a dark secret. For centuries, residents have foretold the return of the Dreamwalker—an ominous figure from local folklore said to lure young women into the woods with the help of wolves, and possess them. Yet the boundary between fact and fable is blurred by a troubling statistic: every now and again, women do go missing. And after they return, they almost always end up dead.
When Kai wakes up next to the body of a recently missing girl, his memory blank, he struggles to clear his already threadbare conscience. Miya, a floundering university student, experiences signs that she may be the Dreamwalker’s next victim and finds herself caught between a supernatural kidnapping and a senseless murder. And after the death of a young patient, crestfallen oncologist Mason embarks on a quest to debunk the town’s superstitions, only to find his sanity tested.
Yet a maelstrom of ancient grudges, forgotten traumas, and deadly secrets loom in the foggy forests of Black Hollow. Can three unlikely heroes put aside their fears, and unite to confront a centuries old evil? Will they uncover the truth behind the fable, or will the cycle repeat?

I can't wait to read this book, it sounds so good! It is definitely next on my list, and after reading the first chapter (see below) I have to say I'm intrigued. Scroll down to read an excerpt and enter the giveaway for a poster!

TTT: My Overdue/Upcoming ARC's

It's time for another Top Ten Tuesday: Brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. If you're participating this week let me know in the comments, I would love to hear what you picked for this weeks TTT, especially since it is a freebie!

                           My Overdue/Upcoming ARCs

This week's TTT is a freebie, woo! So I decided to post the ARCs I have received and have yet to read/review. This is sort of an effort to keep myself accountable, and encourage myself to bump these beauties up my TBR. I may have somewhat over-committed myself with ARCs, as I haven't been reading as much as I would like recently. I will get to them all eventually though, and I'll post my reviews as I read them. [For the non-bloggers out there, ARC = Advanced Review Copy - a free book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review]
So here they are (covers link to Goodreads):

Shadow in the Empire of Light by Jane Routley:
Release day: 4th August 2020

I am currently reading this one and it's really different. The MC is a 'mundane' in a family of noble mages. The matriarchal society is really interesting and different, and so far (I'm only 6 chapters in) it deals with sexism, race, homophobia, and just a whole bunch of family drama. Also a telepathic cat! 😍 I'll hopefully have my review posted prior to release day. Please come and kick me if I don't!

Mini Review: Tales From the Front by Elise Kova

Tales From the Front by Elise Kova
(Air Awakens 2.5)
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

This little bonus is a freebie which you can get by signing up for the author's mailing list. You can't actually buy it anywhere.

It contains 12 short stories, or rather scenes, told from different perspectives. It is recommended to read it between books 2 and 3 in the series.

If you haven't started this series then check out Air Awakens, followed by Fire Falling.

As the author explains in the beginning, this little freebie is to make up for the literal cliffhanger ending in book 2. It kind of overlaps the end of book 2 with the beginning of book 3. It doesn’t really reveal too much though, and it is written from multiple different points of view, instead of Vhalla’s. I liked that we got to see these little insights into some of the other characters, like Baldair and Fritz, as well as meeting some new characters too.

Book Blitz: Fireborne by McKenzie Hunter

Fireborne
by McKenzie Hunter
(Raven Cursed #1)
Publication date: November 1st 2019
Genres: New Adult, Urban Fantasy

My magic isn’t just a curse – it’s an addiction. I crave it the way some people crave chocolate. But, chocolate doesn’t kill – my magic does.
I’m Raven Cursed. When I borrow magic from someone, they die. That’s always been the case—until I met my client, the devilishly handsome and enigmatic Mephisto. He has his own brand of unique magic and a mysterious past he’s determined to keep to himself.
He knows that I’m the one to call anytime a curse goes wrong, a magical object is lost, or a rogue
supernatural needs apprehending. So he offers a trade. He’ll give me his magic, and in return, I accept a job from him.
It seems like a simple deal until all hell breaks loose. We have to team up to stop a god from unleashing destruction upon the city. It leaves me to wonder: can I battle a god with the devil at my back?
